Privacy attorney Stephanie O. Sparks is one of the first attorneys in the South Bay and Tri-Valley areas that has been helping clients navigate the treacherous waters following data breaches, whether due to a stolen laptop, phishing scam, or a hacked server. She advises her clients on privacy and data security issues, not from a 50,000-foot theoretical view but from the practical perspective she has gained from 10 years in the data breach trenches. She knows all to well that small to mid-size companies are challenged by limited resources, yet she strives to help them learn how to steer toward demonstrable HIPAA compliance and how to keep your company in a defensible position. Martin J. Kopp, Privacy & Data Security, Hoge Fenton

Bio

Martin is a valuable member of Hoge Fenton’s privacy and data security practice. Along with his team, Martin advises clients on the collection, handling and protection of data by their organizations, establishing terms of service and privacy policies, and evaluating data policies and practices. When the worst happens and a client experiences a data breach, Martin participates in the immediate triage, which often requires 24/7 attention and commitment. He also is responsible for ongoing response activity, from notification to helping manage public relations. To help the firm’s clients avoid these extremely stressful scenarios and manage their risk, Martin advises on best practices for data security and breach prevention, including under HIPAA and the HITECH Act.

Natalia Mazina, Compliance and Defense Healthcare Attorney

Natalia is a compliance and defense healthcare attorney at Kelly, Hockel & Klein. She represents healthcare providers in all aspects of their practices including compliance, license defense, and litigation. Prior to joining the firm she was a founding partner of Carman & Mazina law firm specializing in healthcare with the focus on pharmacy law. She also was an associate attorney at Medicaid Defense Fund, which has stopped six consecutive Medi-Cal reimbursement cuts to the providers.

Abstract

The program focuses on TeleHealth and its potential legal pitfalls. You will learn what TeleHealth is and how you can properly integrate it in your practice. You will be able to identify and avoid most legal issues common in TeleHealth, such as proper licensing, privacy and confidentiality, anti-kickbacks issues in TeleHealth, and implications to your medical malpractice. Dr. Vijay Tiwari, MD, FACP

Bio

Dr. Vijay Tiwari is a practicing Attending Physician and Hospitalist at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, Greater Southern Alameda Area, and Fellow of the American College of Physicians. The youngest Physician to be honored with the Donald Kaufman Physician of the Year 2013, Dr Tiwari is a thought-leader in bringing technology to medical practice, focussed on "establishing affordable world-class health care for all". Along with distinguished leaders, he has been involved in establishing protocol-based medical practice in many countries including USA, Grand Cayman Island, Qatar, Ghana, and Nigeria. He runs multiple super-specialty free medical camps in impoverished regions in India, and a free school that educates over 500 students in a village where children have no access to basic education and nutritious food. Dr Tiwari believes in thinking out-of-the-box, and will speak about the employment of technology such as telemedicine to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Jodi comes to Crown Clinics with 19 years of medical experience in both family practice and orthopedics. She brings that experience to our new Spirit Lake location. Jodi is married with 3 daughters and 1 dog. She enjoys spending time with family, having fun in the sun and shopping.

Marla Thomas, Billing Manager

Bio

Marla started her healthcare career with a CNA certification from ILCC. She has 12 years healthcare experience including nursing home, orthopaedics, and family practice settings. Marla has several responsibilities at Crown Clinics including credentialing, billing, coding, and human resources. She is married with 2 children and one spoiled dog. She enjoys watching Nascar and going to Nascar races in her spare time.

Charles Cooper, VP Operations

Bio

Charles first started doing project work with Holistique Medical Group in 2010 helping Dr. Darvish establish a clinical trial protocol for nutraceuticals. He migrated the clinic from paper charts to an Electronic Medical Records system. Charles came on board full time in 2012 and is the Clinic’s Operations and Technology Director. He keeps the various specialized medical computing devices as well as the clinic’s network humming. Charles has had a long career in technology services in the legal, financial services, and medical services industries.
